As with most airports in the country, Thrifty don’t have a branch directly on the site of the airport but they always have one close by – this keeps costs down as rent at the airport is high and so they can pass on the savings to you. This being said however, they quite often offer a service to pick you up from the airport you’re flying to. When you book a car give them your flight reference and they will be able to track it on their computer and turn up at the right time to hand over the keys to your car. This service does have to be booked in advance and isn’t offered at all branches so you will need to ring up beforehand to make sure it is running when you require it.

The Thrifty branch you need for Bristol Airport is their Bristol City branch which is open 8.30am until 5.30pm Monday to Friday and 8.30am to 12.30 pm on Saturdays – it is closed Sundays. Their standard range of Ford Fiestas, Vauxhall Astras, VW Golfs and VW Passats is offered, but there is also the option to hire a car from their prestige range should you feel like a bit of self-indulgence. Cars in this range include BMW 3, 5 and 7 Series, the Jaguar XF and Luxury 4x4s such as Range Rovers. All the cars in the prestige class are automatic and you definitely need to ring up before if you’re after one of these specialist cars to check which are in stock when you need them.

Along with Europcar, National, Hertz and Budget, Avis is one of the five car rental companies located at Bristol Airport. If you would like to book your Avis car rental online, you will find it is a very simple process.

To begin, visit Avis.com. Enter your pick-up date and time, as well as your return date and time. Next, enter “Bristol Airport -(BRS)” in the “Pick-up” blank.

If you have a Wizard Number, Avis Worldwide Discount Number or Rate Code, enter those in the provided optional blanks. Otherwise, click “Continue.”

Avis will then return a list of the available options. For my example trip, Avis returned two small options, five medium options and eight large options. The lowest base rate was $77.99 USD, while the highest was $324.99. Avis also noted that three of the options (a small, medium and large) were sold out.

The $77.99 option Avis returned was a Peugeot 207 or similar car. The car is a manual, so if you were booking this trip and wanted to upgrade to an automatic, the best rate available was $93.99. This was for a Vauxhall Astra or similar vehicle. It’s an automatic, and in the medium class of vehicles.

When you conduct your own search, once you decide which vehicle you want, you will click “Select.” Avis will then provide you with a list of additional options, including GPS navigation, child safety seats, collision damage waiver, personal accident insurance, liability insurance or theft protection.
